Practice Words
Two-syllable compound words formed by joining two smaller words together.
I love my hair. I keep it strong so I can do lots of cool things with it. Sometimes I brush it with my hairbrush and add a few clips. Then I am all set for the day!
In the summer I like to keep my hair up and off my neck. It stops me from getting too hot in the sunshine. It also keeps the hot sun off my head while I sip my cool drink.
I love it in the autumn when I can run in the falling leaves. My hair looks so good with leaves and flowers in it. Each footstep crunches as I skip along, and my hair flows like a big wave.
In the winter, my hair keeps me warm. I like to have it close to me. It stops the breeze from making my cheeks cold. It can catch each snowflake that drifts down in the snowfall.
I got a haircut a few years ago. I wanted to try it short. It was easy to care for, but I missed my long hair. I had to wait for a long time for it to be a good length again.
I love to flop down on the grass at the park and let my hair spread out. It makes me feel like I am part of the plants and the ground when I lie down like that. Cute bugs crawl on my arms, and an earthworm slides by.
Out in the sunshine, I went big. I shaped my hair into a perfect square, with pink and green clips all over it. My dog stared up at me from the grass. 'It is called style,' I told him.
I like to hold things in my hair. It is the best while I draw in my notebook. I can keep spare pens in there so that I can grab a new color in no time at all!
My mom sometimes says my hair looks like a bird's nest. What if real birds made a home up there? My dog could perch on top too, happy as can be. I would be a walking nest with wings and a tail!
On windy days, my hair flies out behind me like a big flag. People stop on the sidewalk and stare. My dog and I lean into the breeze, side by side. We walk like we own the whole street, and we really do.
My mom gets me a lot of fun headbands, pins and bows to put in my hair. I like to try new looks a lot. At bedtime she sometimes does it in braids or pigtails. My dog peeks out and wants a bow too.
Will I ever get a haircut again? No way! Long hair fills my days with sunshine and fun. Flowers tuck into my curls like they grew there, and even the garden outside seems to copy me.
