On the right side of the image, an open window in a pink-walled suburban American house reveals a dark, empty room inside with a desk, computer monitor, and office chair β€” the occupant is clearly absent. Tik sits perched on the windowsill, peering inside through the open window with a quiet, curious expression, one paw resting on the window frame. Below the window, a garden bed of yellow wildflowers lines the base of the house wall.

Tik the mouse knew he had found the perfect house. The window was open wide. The room was dark and still, and best of all, not one soul was home. 'No cats,' Tik whispered, sniffing the air. 'No dogs. No people at all.' He crept along the sill and peered inside. 'Just me.'

On the left side of the image, Tik stands on a wooden desk beside a computer monitor and keyboard, looking curious and determined while gripping a computer cable (the 'rope') with both paws. The cable trails across the desk to Klik β€” a small, round computer mouse sitting on the desk near the keyboard, with a cute mouse-like face on its pink front panel, a smooth light blue upper shell, and a cord connecting it to the computer. The indoor scene shows a desk setup with a monitor, keyboard, a small book, and a gray office chair, rendered in soft watercolor tones with gentle lighting. The right side of the image is plain light background.

Tik hopped onto the desk to explore. Pencils. Papers. A big glowing screen. Then he spotted it. A rope, thick and rubbery, running across the desk. 'Ooooh,' said Tik, grabbing it with both paws. 'I could tie this in a knot on my door. I could hang up my curtains. This is the best rope ever!' He pulled. He tugged. He yanked with all his might.

On the right side of the image, Tik crouches on the wooden desk near the keyboard, leaning forward with a determined expression, biting down on a computer cable with both front paws gripping it. At the other end of the cable, Klik β€” the small, round computer mouse with a cute face on its pink front panel and smooth light blue shell β€” sits on the desk, reacting with a surprised, pained expression as its cord is bitten. The background shows the indoor desk setup with the computer monitor and soft blue-toned wall lighting.

The rope would not budge one bit. So Tik did what any smart mouse would do. He bit down on it. Crunch. 'Ow!' yelled a tiny voice from the other end of the rope. 'Ow, ow, ow! That is my tail you are biting, you absolute knucklehead!'

In the lower half of the image, Tik stands on a wooden desk to the right, looking at Klik with a confused pout and furrowed brow. Klik sits to the left on the desk β€” a small, round computer mouse with a cute face on its pink front panel and a smooth light blue upper shell, connected by a cord to the keyboard, appearing to speak with an eager expression. Between and around them are a keyboard, a pencil, scattered papers, and a closed green book. The scene is set indoors on a desk against a soft blue wall, with the top half of the image left as plain white background.

Tik spun around and saw a small, round, angry thing on the desk with a cord for a tail. 'My name is Klik,' it said, 'and I am a mouse, you knucklehead.' Tik stared. Klik had no whiskers, no paws, and no snout at all. Tik knew a mouse when he saw one. 'You,' said Tik slowly, 'are not a mouse.'

On the right side of the image, Tik stands on a wooden desk near the computer monitor and keyboard, arms crossed and mouth open as if protesting, with an incredulous expression. Klik sits on the desk beside the keyboard β€” a small, round computer mouse with a cute face on its pink front panel and a smooth light blue upper shell, with a blue cord trailing behind it, looking determined and proud. The left side of the image is plain white background, leaving space for text. The indoor setting has soft blue-toned lighting against a light wall.

'I am too a mouse!' said Klik. 'I click! I scroll! I know how to find anything on the internet! Can you do that?' 'I can chew through a wall,' said Tik. 'Well, I can open forty-seven tabs at once,' said Klik.

On the left side of the image, Tik stands on the wooden desk beside Klik β€” the small, round computer mouse with a cute face on its pink front panel and a smooth light blue shell, with a cord trailing behind β€” looking at Klik with a hopeful, slightly worried expression. Above them, two thought bubbles float: one shows a wedge of cheese (representing scouting for food), and the other shows a dark gray cat silhouette with glowing yellow eyes (representing the danger Tik fears). Klik's face looks determined and confident. The scene has soft watercolor lighting against a plain white background, with the right side of the image left clear.

'Fine,' said Tik. 'Can you find me food? I have not eaten since Tuesday.' 'Easy!' said Klik. 'I have a knack for snacks.' 'And the cat,' Tik added softly. 'There's a cat in this house. A big one. Can you help me hide?'

Page 7
On the right side of the image, Tik stands frozen on the wooden desk, eyes wide with terror, ears perked up, one paw raised as if straining to listen. The Cat's enormous dark gray form peeks up over the edge of the desk, low-crouching with pale yellow eyes glinting and white claws extended, creeping toward Tik with a menacing prowl. Klik β€” the small computer mouse with its pink face and light blue shell β€” is visible nearby on the desk, connected by its cord. The indoor setting shows the desk area with soft, tense watercolor tones.

Then Tik heard it. A low, rumbling purr. And the soft pad, pad, pad of huge paws. The cat was here. It was not a small cat. It was the kind of cat that looked at mice the way Tik looked at cheese. Its yellow eyes glowed. Its claws clicked on the desk. Tik's knees went weak. 'Klik!' Tik squeaked, backing away fast. 'Klik, do something!'

Page 8
On the left side of the image, Cat looms large from above with an aggressive snarling expression, pale yellow eyes wide, paws outstretched with white claws extended, lunging toward Tik. Tik is below on the desk surface near a computer keyboard, leaping and bouncing away with a terrified expression, one arm raised as if calling for help toward Klik β€” the small computer mouse with its pink face and light blue shell, sitting near the keyboard, connected by its cord. The scene is set indoors on a desk with a computer monitor and keyboard visible, with a light blue background fading to plain white on the right.

The cat lunged. Tik dodged left. The cat swiped. Tik dodged right, his knees shaking. 'Klik! You said you knew how to help! You said the cat would run!' 'I am working on it!' shouted Klik. 'Give me two seconds!'

Page 9
On the right half of the image, Klik β€” the small, round computer mouse with a cute face on its pink front panel and smooth light blue shell β€” sits on the desk near the keyboard, its cord connected to the computer, looking triumphant and proud. The computer monitor displays a large, fierce barking dog with a wide-open mouth. Cat is in the middle of running away, off the desk and facing away from it, arched and wide-eyed with a startled, frightened expression, fleeing from the loud dog sound. Tik stands on the desk near Klik, looking relieved and safe with a grateful smile. The scene is set indoors on a desk with warm indoor lighting. The left half of the image should be completely blank.

Then the screen lit up. And the biggest, loudest, meanest dog Tik had ever seen came roaring out of the speakers. 'Woof! Woof! Woof!' The cat froze. Its eyes went wide. Its fur puffed up like a feather duster. It shot off that desk, through the door, and out of the room so fast it left skid marks on the floor. Klik sat by the keyboard, looking mighty pleased. 'Forty-seven tabs,' Klik said. 'I knew it would work.'

Page 10
On the left side of the image, viewed through an open window with no bars on it, with a flower box of yellow and pink tulips below the sill, Tik is hugging Klik warmly β€” lifting the small computer mouse up in a big, affectionate embrace. Tik is smiling with eyes closed, pressing Klik close. Klik's cute face on its pink front panel looks content, its blue cord dangling below. They are indoors, seen from outside looking in through the window, with a keyboard visible on the desk beside them, suggesting a cozy indoor setting with warm golden lighting.

Tik picked Klik up and hugged that silly little mouse so hard its cord swung back and forth. 'You,' said Tik, 'are the weirdest mouse I have ever known. And I have known a lot of mice.' 'The BEST mouse,' said Klik.
