A Rod (Open syllable)
Practice Words
Two-syllable words with an open first syllable ending in a long vowel sound.
Alex makes a rod so that she can stand by the water and catch some fish. She uses three sticks and two bits of string to craft it.
Steve does not have a rod. He does not even have sticks or bits of string. He will need to find some if he wants to go fishing with Alex.
He asks if Alex has any spare items that he can craft with. They often share their hauls. Alex tells him no. Those were her last sticks and bits of string.
Steve will have to go out and search for what he needs. He hopes he will not have to travel very far to find sticks and string.
He heads over to spots where they often find things to craft with. Alex must have been by and cleaned out this open ground.
Steve spots a bin and dives in for a look. He does not find sticks or string, but it is not a total loss. An old rod!
The rod is not in good shape. It will not last for long. He might only catch a fish or two with it, but he is going to keep on with the search. He brings the old rod with him.
He searches on and on for the items that he needs, but he has no luck. It looks like he might have to make do with the old rod.
He spots a rod in a hole! But why would it be left like that? That is not a good sign. He jumps in the hole and takes a look. This rod is broken at the tip.
Steve starts to head home with the two old rods. It will be night before long. He can start the search over again at first light.
When Alex sees the two old rods that Steve found, she grabs them and begins to craft. There is more than one way to make a rod!
Alex has taken the best bits from both of the rods and made a new one! She is glad to have a rival to fish with. Who will pull in the best fish?
