Guess What I Drew!
Practice Words
Two-syllable words where 'es' is added to form plurals, creating an extra syllable.
Paul likes to draw. He sketches every day when he comes home from school. His mum buys him big art books to draw in.
Paul starts with three round shapes. He sketches a big one and adds two smaller ones above it. It is fun to make guesses about what a drawing will be.
Two big eyes blink up at us, round and surprised as can be. 'Is it a frog?' you might guess, or maybe an owl with long lashes. Paul shakes his head and sketches some more. 'Nope. Keep watching,' he says.
He fills in the big round shape. Paul never rushes his work. He does not go out of the lines. It is hard to do, but he keeps his hand still as he draws.
Now he sketches a box next to the other shapes. Is this going to be a car? A car with eyes? Or is it a living thing?
Four legs appear under the box, each with tiny feet. Paul sketches careful lines so both sides match. He smiles and says, 'My art teacher will love this!'
He searches for a picture on his laptop to check something. Now there is a big smile under the black shape. What kind of pet has a smile like that? Is it a cat?
Paul asks if we can make guesses about what he has drawn. He says that he has one more thing to add that will help us.
A tail! It stretches up. I think that this is the sort of tail that wags when a pet is glad. What kind of pet wags like that?
Yes! Paul has drawn a dog. It is such a cute dog! I like the dashes he drew to show the fur. It makes the dog look soft.
You can draw your own dog, just like Paul did! Follow the steps and make sketches of your own. You might like to draw more pets out of shapes as well!
